Proposal/Treatment

The proposal I’ve done for this factual project is effective at getting across my idea as well as some of the possible issues involved and how they will be overcome although to a professional standard the next time I do a proposal it needs to be officially referenced in the bibliography section. It is important to create a proposal for professional standards as they are used all over the media industry and are used to portray a developed idea. In my proposal, I discuss effectively how I will go about creating a mood in the audience of the different ways reality is perceived although in the future I could improve upon this by making it more in-depth. I came to the conclusion of reality being perceived differently by combining some of my initial ideas together.

Pre-production

H&SHillsborough Park RecceGleadless Field/Common Recce

I created pre-production documents necessary for the creation of my factual poetic piece on reality. I created the health and safety first and then went out and did a location recce at the places I would be filming around gleadless and in the gleadless field/common as well as Hillsborough park. I created an H&S first in case of any potential hazards that may have occurred which is important when a whole crew would be filming on a bigger project as they need to know what precautions to take before going on a recce. I can improve upon the health and safety by being more in-depth and ensuring it is filled out correctly, this is important in a professional production to ensure that no one can be liable for the injury if it’s on the health and safety of which they will be made to read. I created a recce after going to the locations to look out possible locations as well as look for possible problems or precessions that may need to be taken. I can improve upon the recce and H&S next time by making it more in-depth, analytical and filled out correctly.

Shot List/OrderStoryboard/Visualisation(Mind-map of structures – Proposal)

I created a shot list/order and visualisation(Storyboard) as well as a mind map of structure for how I wanted my factual piece to look and the order of it. I did this because it will make the post-production stage go faster as well as making sure that on location shots aren’t missed and un-filmed it was also useful for helping me to come up with ideas as to how the factual piece will look and give an outline as to how the edit will go. I created a shot list and order together because it will be more effective to film on my own although separate documents would be expected on a professional production with a crew. The storyboard will be useful to make a reference to when editing to make the process more effective and quick. As well as giving a baseline. I can improve further upon my storyboarding in the future by adding more visual and written detail. It needs to be more in-depth and correctly formatted. I created a mind map to structure and order my ideas for different elements, in reality, this is useful for showing structures which will make up the final video. According to AnalyticsvidyaMind mapping is a process of creating mind maps used to convey ideas and concepts in a visual form. … These tools use different colours, tree structures, pictures, animations to ensure that an idea is presented in the most comprehensible form.” This would also be useful in a professional industry for explaining the different elements in a video to a crew. I could improve upon this by creating it in an editorial order to give an idea as to how the video would be laid out. Although a storyboard is what should be used to show how a video will be edited using a baseline.

Process evaluation

During the creation of the factual piece, I went through several processes to produce it. I started by defining what was needed as well as potential problems, I did this through use of a proposal this was useful for defining the main idea and gaining a reasonably structured idea of how the factual piece will end up.  I developed my idea throughout the use of a mindmap and storyboard as to how the project would visually work, this worked well for me however in a professional production it would make more sense to develop an idea through use of a proposal because if you came up with an idea but then someone else needed to create it in a crew the idea would need to be fully developed already. I created a Shot list/shot order to develop the idea into a visual representation to be used to ensure filming goes smoothly. This form of shot list/order, made the filming process more time efficient and effective for me however in a professional production it would be better to use separate sheets as to not confuse the crew. I didn’t use an equipment list to identify what would be necessary on paper for the production, however, this worked for me just being on my own, however ideally in a crew it would be necessary to identify what is required otherwise everything would fall to pieces and there would be no finished video. In the future to improve upon my production management I need to think about what is needed crew, action done and who is doing them before creating the planning documents. I created a health and safety first and then a recce, however, in reflection it would have made more sense to do it the other way around rather than creating an H&S before actually going to the location and doing a location recce.

Throughout, the factual production, I could have more effectively utilised my professional production management by filling out documents only after I have asked my self the correct questions in the planning phase as to what needs to be done, by who and what is needed such as equipment wise. The documents I have created for the production of this project were effective at creating a final piece, However I certain documents which could have improved the development and production of the project. Some of these are a breakdown sheet which may have helped with doing goals bit by bit making me think in more depth about the project which is a good thing without thinking in-depth about an idea things are overlooked such as issues with permission, location and the structure of the idea, which on a professional production could make or break it. For this project, I didn’t create a schedule, log sheets, equipment booking or an agreement to be signed by anyone in the factual piece. This wasn’t that big of a problem as I was working along however in the future I will use those production document as without them it could mean lawsuits for a professional paid production or the whole thing falling apart without a schedule or equipment booking document. In the future when working on a production with a crew, using a log sheet will be necessary ideally because without it it makes the editing process long and time-consuming without a guide such as a log sheet. For this production, I didn’t create a script as it wasn’t a conventional documentary however if it had of been I would have done to ensure the correct questions are asked and things aren’t missed.
